Description: WEGO Plain Catgut is an absorbable sterile surgical suture, composed of high quality 420 or 300 series drilled stainless needles and premium purified animal collagen thread. The WEGO Plain Catgut is a twisted Natural Absorbable Suture, composed of purified connective tíssue (mostly collagen) derived from either the serosal layer of beef (bovine) or the submucosal fibrous layer of sheep (ovine) intestines, with fine polished to smooth thread. The WEGO Plain Catgut consists of sutures prepared from collagen taken from the intestinal membranes of mammals. After cleaning , the membranes are split longitudinally into strips of varying width, which, when assembled in small numbers, according to the diameter required, are twisted under tension, dried, polished, selected and sterilised. Appropriate harmonised standards may be considered when assessing compliance with respect to origin and processing of raw materials and with respect to biocompatibility. The WEGO Plain Catgut is a surgical wound closure device. Being an absorbable suture it serves to approximate tissue during the healing period and is subsequently metabolised by proteolytic activity. In order to make the clinical use easier, Plain Catgut is packed in the solution containing isopropanol sodium benzoate, diethylethanolamine , water and so on, to soften the thread.
